Abstract This paper comprehensively analyzes the research status and development trend of face recognition technology based on artificial intelligence. Face recognition technology, as an important application in the field of artificial intelligence, shows great potential for development in security monitoring, mobile computing and other fields. The introduction of deep learning methods significantly improves the accuracy and efficiency of face recognition systems, especially the robustness under various conditions. In this study, bibliometric analysis was used to draw a knowledge map using CiteSpace and VOSviewer software to analyze 543 related literatures during 2020-2024. The results of the study show that although significant progress has been made in face recognition technology, there are still challenges in the accuracy of face recognition under different lighting conditions, occlusion, and pose changes. In addition, computational efficiency and model size in resource-constrained environments are also pressing issues. This paper proposes future research directions, including privacy preservation, real-time optimization, multi-mode fusion, virtual data generation, and integration with smart cities and the Internet of Things (IoT), with the aim of promoting the development and application of face recognition technology. © COPYRIGHT SPIE.
