Abstract Crowdsourcing has become a potential strategy to treat a wide range of challenges faced by smart cities. Crowdsourcing allows cities to make use of the group’s wisdom and resources of their residents to improve urban services, enhance decision-making processes, and foster civic engagement. This paper provides an overview of crowdsourcing applications in smart cities, including citizen sensing, participatory planning, public service delivery, and urban governance. Has become a potential strategy to treat a wide range of challenges faced by smart cities. Crowdsourcing allows cities to make use of the group’s wisdom and resources of their residents to improve urban services, enhance decision-making processes, and foster civic engagement. This chapter includes sustainable application which economically support the smart hub, including citizen sensing, participatory planning, public service delivery, and urban governance. Various research trends and challenges will be highlighted with case some studies discovering the significant crowdsource apps. We discuss the benefits and challenges associated with each application and highlight international case studies and best practices. Finally, we identify key research gaps and opportunities for future work in this area, including the need to develop more effective incentives and engagement strategies for crowdsourcing, to address issues of bias and data quality, and to ensure that crowdsourcing is inclusive and equitable for all citizens. The development of the “Internet of Things (IoT)” has accelerated the process of “smartification” in everyday living. As a result, smart metropolises have automated parts of business, education, thrift, drug use, and civic areas. Mobile crowdsourcing has grown in importance in smart metropolises because smartification necessitates a variety of dynamic information in various social contexts. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
