Abstract Our research focuses on establishing a suitable and reliable method for measuring the movement of pedestrians and passengers in public transit. The objective is to assess the viability of using passive mobile crowdsensing for matters surrounding public transportation, design tools suitable for processing data collected by sensors in the crowdsensing network, propose an essential algorithm for the data matching procedure, and experimentally verify the viability of Wi-Fi technology for such purposes by testing sensors. These technologies are applicable to various logistical functions as well as the planning of major public events. This paper tries to introduce the subject even to those who are unfamiliar with the concept of crowdsensing. © 2023 IEEE.
