Abstract Modeling and creating smart cities are currently becoming a part of city information systems. It can even be said that we would no longer find a sphere that would effectively manage its decision-making processes without taking into account the spatial aspect. This was supported by the current technological advances as well as the development of computer technology, software and, above all, the creation of new data formats allowing full 3D access. An important and irreplaceable part of the perception of space around us is a comprehensive understanding of dynamically changing processes. The creation of the spatial models expands in different spheres of social events. Procedural modeling has also been used to create extensive objects. This type of modeling is based on defined rules that allow fast generation of 3D objects. Connecting this way of modeling with the geodatabase of spatial objects to create a truly smart city with the ability to bring changes in spatial structures and urban planning. Within the geodatabase in the GIS environment, a basic attribute table is designed to create 3D objects, as these attributes enter variables into the programming language used to create rules of the Computer generated architecture. In the contribution, we are describing with the creation of 3D models and modeling characteristics by means of defined rules focusing on roof objects using for renewable sources such as designing photovoltaic systems and green roofs. The indisputable advantage of procedural modeling is the creation of possible scenarios for the future of the city and presentation through a 3D scene on the web for both the laymen and professional public. © 2019 Author(s).
