Abstract This study investigates the influence of clouds and aerosols on solar photovoltaic energy in the urban settings and circumstances of Athens, Cairo, Granada, and Vienna, with varying cloud presence, aerosol kinds, and irradiation levels. Eumetsat satellite-based remote sensing data, together with Copernicus and radiative-transfer-modelled data, were employed in this approach over a decade (2010-2019). Furthermore, an idealized solar energy planning scenario was examined, utilizing photovoltaics put on city building rooftops to meet the pilot cities' power demands while also promoting local energy security and transition. © 2024 IEEE.
