Abstract With the fast development of smart cities and the increasing capacity of renewable energy, it is important to have an accurate and effective distribution power grid planning method. This paper first proposed a power grid evaluation method to provide information about whether the grid needs further construction or not, compared to the development of the city. In addition, the development of electric vehicles, 5G stations and renewable energy in smart cities are taken into consideration. Second, for the power grid which needs further construction, the grid planning technology are classified into three categories based on the usage of the land. Third, a recommend construction method for voltage level, grid structure, electrical primary system configuration, power distribution facility and relay protection is provided for each type of land. In this way, a safe and efficient distribution power grid based on the specific needs of land usage can be built. © 2021 IEEE.
