Abstract This paper discusses the concept of a Smart Twin City and its application in Bratislava. The paper highlights the need for societal development in the European Union, which involves transitioning from an industrial to a post-industrial, knowledge-based society based on Industry 4.0. It is shown that investigation of the development of twin cities strategy with considering digital resilience is relevant for real solving the problems and facing current challenges using the concept of a smart city including the city's digital transformation. The concept of a Smart Twin City for Bratislava is based on the best practices and experiences of different cities in Europe and elsewhere. The strategy aims to achieve sustainable quality of life, efficient leadership and entrepreneurship, sustainable jobs market, and a creative friendly atmosphere, among others. The paper discusses the main policy options, such as smart use of resources, smart economy, and smart community. The authors also examine socioeconomic indicators, comparing Bratislava and Vienna, and highlight the need for metropolitan and regional cooperation in the city's competitiveness. The paper concludes that the Smart Twin City concept is an effective approach to achieving sustainable urban development. © 2023 IEEE.
