Abstract Smart City is an urban development concept combining various information and communication technologies (ICT) to improve the quality of life and increase economic competitiveness. This concept aims to create a modern, efficient, and sustainable urban environment to increase society's productivity and welfare. Smart City is considered able to solve various problems such as congestion, infrastructure development, services, and security. This research aims to compare the implementation of Smart City in Taipei City, Taiwan, and Batam City, Indonesia, by comparing programs and innovations in the two cities. This qualitative research uses a comparative descriptive method with data collection through in-depth interviews and documentation studies. The domains to be compared in this study are Smart Governance, Smart Environment, Smart Living Infrastructure, and Smart Mobility Transportation. The study results show that Taipei City has had many IT-Integration based innovation programs compared to Batam City. The Batam City Government can take inspiration from the Taipei City Government in technology infrastructure, public participation, and collaboration between institutes. © 2024 Author(s).
