Abstract National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China implemented the pilot policy of “Smart city” in 2012, which promoted the high-quality development of cities, so can this pilot policy promote the development of Green technology innovation in cities? In this paper, we select 300 Chinese prefecture-level cities as samples from 2005 to 2020 and use difference-in-difference models to investigate the quantitative and qualitative impacts of the Smart city pilot policy on Green technology innovation. The results of the study show that Smart city pilot policies can promote the development of Green technology innovation at the overall level, and the results still hold after testing. This paper has certain reference significance for understanding the practical significance of the pilot policy of "Smart city" and enhancing the development pattern of urban construction.
