Abstract Today, the world is at an inflection point and being pushed to embrace renewable energy and smart systems that define the gravitas of normal living standards of the yesteryears. As much as buildings have changed over the decades across the globe due to weather or conducive to better living when exposed to adverse climatic conditions brought on by global warming and pollution, the demand for newer and advanced technology that protects buildings has become essential, which is achieved today by robust data centers. Most buildings have shifted from horizontal to vertical infrastructure housing more people, or where offices have shifted to the cloud, education too, technologists and architects are forced to implement serious technology into these concrete jungles. Data centers keep these super-structured organizations and residential apartments as the constant in conserving energy and water that are the bare essentials to a new culture of life in the 21st century of newer technology and digitalization. The revolutionary changes to the phone and with swifter access to contemporary technology and the convenient advent to the internet guarantees data centers play a crucial role in conservation of energy or protect information such as the consumption and utilization of energy used by individuals in a household to apartment complexes and organizations. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the principal role of sophisticated data centers and the change they advocate in the protection of smart buildings. In the current economy of sorts, data centers competitively ensure that our banking and other areas are dependent on new technology, thus making life easier and offering immense scope in saving time which we can use elsewhere. The authors intend to bring out the positives of data centers in smart buildings as the globe has shifted to a new normal of super-structured buildings for office, for education, and for play exemplified by the pandemic. Data centers today not only leave large building spaces scanned for protection against untowardly threats but also play a major role in the scanning of virus particles that could inhibit and affect citizen’s life spans, for instance, in multi-lateral hospitals. © 2022 selection and editorial matter, O.V.
