Abstract Smart city in a modernized urban area makes use of various devices for collecting data and makes smart decisions based on it. Due to technological development, many people may wish to make use of this for maintaining their health in good condition. To facilitate this electronic health record (EHR) is introduced. This facilitates both doctor and patient to access the needed details wherever they want. This process becomes tedious when the size of the data increases. When the size of the data increases, the hospitals may approach different service providers to maintain the same. At some point of time, this may lead to a lag in access. Also, the healthcare data are sensitive it must be securely maintained. Thus, we are in need of a database with high security. Blockchain satisfies the above requirements with its inherent properties. Blockchain is a distributed, tamper-proof database that allows users to store data that cannot be modified further. Each communication is considered as a transaction which is grouped as a block. Blocks are connected using the hash value. Thus, a solution for managing patient data exists and in this chapter, some of the blockchain-based techniques for the healthcare data are discussed. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Diptendu Sinha Roy, Mir Wajahat Hussain, K.
