Abstract	With the advancement of information and communication technologies, traditional cities are transforming to Smart Cities, where different components of cities are interconnected through smart devices. The smart devices communicate with each other and gather information for different Smart City applications. Smart Cities are going to have a large number of smart devices connected for different applications. Those devices are expected to produce a large amount of data. Terabytes of message data will be exchanged among these devices in this connected environment. These connected devices bring many security vulnerabilities and privacy issues, as some of these data may contain sensitive private information. Recently, a great deal of research has been done to ensure the protection of data in Smart City applications. This chapter presents the Big Data-enabled Smart City and its applications, including recent research that has been done in this area, and how data can be protected to ensure its integrity and confidentiality for efficient and accurate Smart City applications. © 2019 Elsevier Inc.
