Abstract The development of Smart City infrastructure enabled various facilities for people. The installation of surveillance cameras in highways are helpful to detect various incidents and communicate the information in a faster way. The challenges in Smart City Development considers automated detection of potholes on roads to avoid unexpected accidents. The proposed approach considers the YOLOV8 Algorithm for real time detection of potholes. The video information is captured from the camera and divided into frames. The locations of the pothole that have been spotted are then forwarded to the internet of things (IoT) enabled platform for additional investigation and action. The proposed model focused on effective Road maintenance system. By demonstrating the viability of cutting-edge computer vision algorithms, the study highlights the effectiveness of YOLOV8 in practical applications. Because of its flexibility the system may be implemented in a variety of settings and offers an efficient way to proactively manage road conditions. © 2024 IEEE.
