Abstract In light of our increasingly rapid urban expansion and the far-reaching impact that this has upon climate change, resource depletion and numerous other issues which affect sustainability within cities: here integrates AI technologies as a key tool for optimizing urban sustainability. Drawing on insights in key sectors such as transportation management, energy efficiency, and environmental monitoring, this paper explores how AI can enable resource optimization and service delivery improvements. Through this study, successful use- cases from various global cities were enunciated where AI solutions have been deployed to cater to urban challenges. The study provides urban policy with a thorough framework for how to implement AI technologies in addressing challenges at the intersection of AI and urban sustainability through collaborative governance efforts. This paper calls for a pre- emptive policy making attitude with an emphasis on ethics and stakeholder inclusion for resilience- derived sustainability in urban developments. © 2025, IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
