Abstract This chapter is a treatise on various depth sensors that can be leveraged for intelligent sensing of infrastructure conditions in the future smart cities. Various state-of-the-art depth sensors are discussed with respective sensing modalities. A review of the previous studies exploiting depth measurement for various health monitoring applications ranging from the detection of cracks and potholes to the estimation of pavement roughness, rut depth, and structural deflection is presented. Information gaps in the existing knowledge base are identified, and a roadmap for the future research is outlined. © 2022 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
