Abstract The aim of the paper is to plan a project from the modification of the application to the integration of a smart parking solution for 300 parking spaces in the center of Stupava. In recent years, cities have been under increasing pressure from digitalization and the associated process of implementing information and communication technologies into mainstream activities (education, healthcare, communication and services to citizens, safe city, smart transport, smart energy, etc.). The implementation of smart solutions on the territory of the city becomes part of urban strategies and concepts (e.g. in the form of economic and social development programs, etc.) or the upcoming concepts of smart cities. A smart city is a complex ecosystem consisting of several action elements such as city dwellers, smart transport, smart energy, information and communication technologies, smart environment, local government, etc. In recent years, we have seen a radical increase in the density of these elements in cities. According to the United Nations, almost 70% of the population will live in cities, and therefore the strategic decisions of the city will be very important when planning and implementing smart solutions to build a safe smart city. A distinctive feature of the present time is the amount of high-quality and timely information that the city can obtain in order to respond correctly and decide. This data is becoming more and more accessible as digitalization increases. The result of the contribution is the determination of the critical path of the smart city project – Stupava. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
